Bengaluru-based local services listing company Thinkvidya Learning Pvt. Ltd that owns and operates online portal UrbanPro.com said on Tuesday that it has raised $2 million (around 12 crore) from Nirvana Venture Advisors. The company had raised an angel round of funding in January 2014.

Thinkvidya, which was founded in 2011, plans on using the funds to improve the product, adding more verticals and expanding to more cities. It also plans to increase its focus on its mobile product and hiring staff.

“UrbanPro’s depth in the education vertical, a highly experienced team and the ability of the product and monetization model to scale across verticals and cities is what got us excited. With nearly half of the traffic on mobile, the company has a huge potential to ride the mobile Internet wave in India," says Rajan Mehra, managing director at Nirvana Venture.

The services listing space has begun to receive investor attention in the last two months. Other start-ups such Delhi-based FindYahan raised an undisclosed amount from Phoenix Fund, and Imma Web Pvt. Ltd, which operates LocalOye, raised $5 million from Lightspeed Venture Partners and Tiger Global Management.

“Our mission is to help people hire smartly, our service is going to become integral part of life, and we are all working to make that a seamless and rewarding experience. We think that the hyperlocal category is poised for a very dynamic period in India," said Rakesh Kalra, founder of Thinkvidya.

On UrbanPro, consumers can post their requirements and the company connects with the users within five minutes, with a professional catering to their specific requirement in the education space. It also allows professionals to create their profile. UrbanPro has listed 300,000 professionals, has received queries from 500,000 consumers so far and gets at least 1 million visits a month. It provides its services in Bengaluru, Mumbai, Delhi NCR, Hyderabad, Pune and Chennai as of now. They are looking to expand to new verticals such as event planning, photography, health and fitness.
