This workshop for 20 children aged 8-12 is designed to introduce them to the process of making and performing theatre. The participants will begin by exploring their own experiences, and expressing and articulating them through a range of theatre exercises. They will also create their own short scripts.

Umak Festival: Abhinandan 80
1-2 June
Sitarist Devabrata Chaudhuri, an exponent of the Senia gharana and a recipient of the Padma Bhushan, will perform on Day 1, accompanied by ustad Akram Khan on tabla. Day 2 will see a sitar recital by Prateek Chaudhuri, accompanied by ustad Rafiuddin Sabri on tabla. This will be followed by a Kathak recital by Rajendra Gangani, accompanied by Fateh Singh Gangani on tabla.

Based on Manoj Mitra’s Bengali comedy drama Bagiya Banchha Ram Ki, the characters in this play include a ghost, and an old man and his grandson, who are fighting for the possession of a garden. The play is directed by Dinesh Ahlawat. 1 hour, 51 minutes.

Summer Theatre Festival 2015

The Repertory Company of the National School of Drama (NSD) is presenting three plays. Ghazab Teri Adaa, written and directed by NSD director Waman Kendre, will be staged from 29-30 May. It is inspired by playwright Aristophanes’ Lysistrata. Suman Mukhopadhyay’s Khilona Nagar, based on a novel by Bengali writer Nabarun Bhattacharya, will be staged from
31 May-2 June. Director Rajinder Nath’s production of Vijay Tendulkar’s famous play Ghashiram Kotwal will be presented from 3-7 June.

The Justice Project—Bangladesh, Nepal, India, Pakistan And Sri Lanka

Pakistani film-maker Ammar Aziz’s ‘A Walnut Tree’ will be screened on 29 May. The 92-minute film is about an old man who is displaced from the Swat valley in Pakistan as a result of a conflict between the army and the Taliban. On 30 May, Rahul Roy’s ‘The Factory’ will be presented. The 132-minute film is about 147 workers of a car maker who are on trial for the murder of a senior manager.

Under The Tin Roof Festival

The Jeff Goldberg Studio, which offers acting, direction and scripting courses, is presenting a three-day festival that will include improv comedy, plays (Marriage-ology and The Interview), a reading-for-auditions workshop by theatre director Quasar Padamsee, film screenings and talks by actors Anand Tiwari and Manish Chaudhary. The screenings and talks are free.
