One night at a call center...in Vishakhapatnam?

It’s official…Mangalore is the new Bangalore, at least for
BPO recruiters. According to a newsletter published today by the research company ValueNotes, outsourcing companies are
going deeper and deeper into the Indian heartland to staff their call
centers. Some, like Genpact, have set
up recruiters in far-flung places like Kochi, Indore, Lucknow, Dehradun and
Vishakhapatnam. Office Tiger says that 25 percent of its staff is culled from
“tier 2 cities and smaller towns.” But the real wave of the future in the BPO
industry, according to ValueNotes, is to relocate whole centers to tier 2 and 3
cities. Bringing village recruits to the big cities means turning them into the
same difficult-to-retain employees BPOs already deal with. Hence, Dell is in
Mohali, Tata Honeywell is in Madurai, WNS is in Naisik, and the rest are
