Society for Human Resource Management launches student network in India

Jeetha D'Silva - Wednesday, March 12, 2008 1:38 PM
The Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), a global body of HR professionals, has launched a student network in India at Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai. The Society for Human Resource Management's student program was created in 1965 to promote mutually beneficial interaction between human resource management students and practitioners. Membership offers students the opportunity to supplement their classroom education with real-world knowledge and hands-on experience. Apart from these benefits, the students would be able to get access to 60000 pages of HR Information, research, networking and learning opportunities through the SHRM website at www.shrm.org.

Since the first chapter was chartered in 1965, the student program has continued to grow. The SHRM® student membership program now includes over 430 affiliated student chapters and nearly 11,000 student members. This is for the first time that such a network has been launched outside USA, claims a statement issued by SHRM.

This is very good news indeed for Indian HR professionals. They will be surely benefitted by the expertise of SHRM to showcase the best practices of HR in India and other parts. I am sure this will be extended to all the premiere management schools so that the students from these institutions can also learn a lot through this initiatives. This is just another of the great achievements of TISS. Given the reputation that SHRM enjoys amongst the professional the world over, its indeed heartening to learn that we have now such a chapter kick started in India as well. Kudos to the TISS folks who made it happen here. The fact that SHRM has gone on record stating that this is first of its kind chapter started out side of the US for the first time lends a lot of credibility to the initiative. Hope we all benefit from this new era of development in the world of HRM.
