Finally, we have a desi version of the BarCamp (for the uninitiated, BarCamp is a global network of open, participatory workshops/events on topics such as early-stage web applications and open source technologies. The first BarCamp was held in Palo Alto three years ago and has since then been organized in several cities around the globe). The Indian Blog and New Media Society, which was launched as a national body in New Delhi on May 15, is conducting BlogCamp on May 24 along the lines of BarCamp followed by a Blog and New Media Workshop, a three-part event from June 28 to June 30 in association with the India Habitat Centre. The workshop will focus on topics including setting and marketing your blog, exploring new media such as photo and video blogging, video sharing, photo sharing, podcasting among other things.
With the launch of the Indian Blog and New Media Society (IBNMS) as a body, the blog community is expected to come together, collaborate, share learnings and use new media forms. The society aims at offering greater visibility to its members and enabling them to make these publishing platforms more effective. Membership is free at this stage (visit www.ibnms.com for more details).
The team at IBNMS will be constituted through general elections, which according to the founders should happen in less than two years time. For now, it will be run by the founding team which includes Ajay Jain, president, a columnist, professional blogger and author of Let's Connect: Using LinkedIn to get ahead at work; Ashish Chopra, director (communications and PR), a user interface designer and contributor to EmptyHead.in; Abhishek Kant, general secretary, a tech marketing professional and blogger (AbhishekKant.net) and Amit Gupta, director (technology), a software engineer involved with Hindi community projects including Hindi blog Narad and discussion forum Paricharcha.
