i dont find funny after knowing about the ad. i have liberal view over religion but...with beef buger was too much.. try doing that to islam god they will tell them........

MNCs should stop taking India lightly. First one of their log serving president calls Indian- Petu or jughead, and then they want to give franchise of all their food outlets here at high premium cost. They want to tap the huge business but do not have sensibility to respect Indian culture and sensitivity. They make fun of God and Goddess like Shiva, Lakshmi, kali but the moment u say a single thing about CHrist or prophet, they start holy wars! I am not against any culture or religion. Nor am I a hardcore zingoistic HIndu. But I would not accept anyone making fun of my God, even if it is my fav burger joint. Thanks Priya, I was looking for this ad for quite sometime...

Priya, The ads don't offend me, but there will always be some people offended by shock ads and hence the continued use of this gimmick. I am not sure they are an equal opportunity offender. As insiders to the tradition they won't use Christian imagery, since that will backfire on sales. They probably won't use Islamic imagery, knowing the vehemence of the backlash they would face, after the Danish cartoon issue. After all their aim is to boost sales, so they won't pick on things that would shock the majority of their customers (western youth), just borderline (pushing the envelope), strategically manufactured controversies.

Actually the zillions of Hindus really didn't know anything about this ad because it was an in-store local promotion in 3 restaurants in Spain. Some desi there saw it and informed HAF (Hindu American Foundation), which wrote to Burger King, which then promptly withdrew the ad with an apology, after much free coverage all over the world. Burger King and others use these kind of low budget shock ads, which then garner much free publicity. What could be more cost effective in such recessionary times? Good find! For one thing I'm sure: If Burger King really want to live the Indian retail boom, it will have to adjust to the customer aspirations here, no matter whether the Gods appear cool or not. I'm sure they will improve (the same was as McDonald's did) after opening their Indian operations. This is the era of Navaratra-special offerings from Domino's and other leading international food chains. Therefore let's keep positive, and give Burger King some time to turnaround!
