Military training for the youth to be made mandatory - Harikrishna Subramanyam Holla

Livemint Community - Wednesday, December 10, 2008 2:48 PM

The main causes for the problems faced by our country are corruption, unemployment and  lack of transparency and accountability and total disregard for law of the  land. The politics has spread its tentacles in all walks of life. As a result of which common man continues to suffer and rich and influential always get-away with whatever mistakes they commit. Indians basically lack patriotism. We show our patriotism only during cricket matches. I wish to suggest that the following steps should be addressed immediately to put our country on right track:
·        Primary education up to High School level should be made compulsory and the state should fund the same
·        Military training for the youth between the age group of 18 to 20 should be made mandatory.
·        Amend the Prevention of Corruption Act and extend the same to both giver and taker. Impose highest punishment of life imprisonment for one who indulges in Corruption. The law should also extend to political parties, businessmen and non-government officials.  if  any individual  possess assets  disproportionate to the known sources of income, they should be  booked under the Anti –corruption laws.
·        Persons who indulge in destruction of public properties should be given highest punishment and the damage should be should be recovered from them.
·        Government is the biggest litigant in the Courts today. All cases where the Government is a party should be resolved through mediation so that the valuable time of the Courts are saved
·        Agricultural sector should be given importance since 70% of the population still lives in villages. Modernisation of Agriculture should be give the priority as it will automatically solve the unemployment problem and stops migration of rural folk to cities
·        Transparency and accountability should be implemented in the administration today. Government servants and the politicians should be held responsible for their failure to implement and execute jobs assigned to them.
·        River, mines and forests should be declared as national assets and the Central Government should take up all projects by themselves keeping the Country's interest in the mind.
·        Industries should be located solely on the basis of feasibility reports and should not be established  to favour a politicians or influential people in the Government. ·        SEZs should never be establishment in prime and fertile agricultural lands.
·       Health Care should be given priority. All Citizens should be
covered by Health Insurance.
·        Blackmarketiers, bootleggers, Terrorists and people who wage war against the Country should be brought to justice by special laws and severe punishment should be imposed on them
·        Religious activities should be basically confined to individuals and community.
·        Any temple, mosque or churches are coming in the way of infrastructure and development or illegally built should be mercilessly razed to the ground
·        Elections should not be show of money power. Non politician or the political party should spend money for the elections. State should spend money only for holding elections. If political parties spend money for the elections, government should impose expenditure tax

I perfectly agree to all the points that you have mentioned here. But as a youngster, I feel that we are not educated in the right sense. We only have bookish knowledge and most of the youth refrain from politics because of the kind of corruption involved. It would be great if youth are motivated to be a part of the system and help clean the Augean stables..

Primary education up to High School level should be made compulsory and the state should fund the same -- Question 1 "How can the education made be compulsive. I mean in a country like India where you have a population close to 1,129,866,154 and atleast 20 % of this population being children and child labour problem still exists compulsion of education is very tough challenge i feel". Military training for the youth between the age group of 18 to 20 should be made mandatory -- Question 2 "How can we mandate this Sir ? You mean to say bring out a Rule is it." Amend the Prevention of Corruption Act and extend the same to both giver and taker. Impose highest punishment of life imprisonment for one who indulges in Corruption. "Noble thought". Persons who indulge in destruction of public properties should be given highest punishment and the damage should be should be recovered from them. -- Question 3 "Who is suppose to punish -- Law, Police. Sir, you must have seen the video of what happened in Law college Chennai". Government is the biggest litigant in the Courts today. All cases where the Government is a party should be resolved through mediation so that the valuable time of the Courts are saved . "Great thought." Agricultural sector should be given importance since 70% of the population still lives in villages. Modernisation of Agriculture should be give the priority as it will automatically solve the unemployment problem and stops migration of rural folk to cities. "Modernisation of agriculture is a very interesting thought. Educated people as well should indulge themselves in this." Transparency and accountability should be implemented in the administration today. Government servants and the politicians should be held responsible for their failure to implement and execute jobs assigned to them. "Choosing right politicians is a very critical factor i feel. Voting to be made compulsive." ·Any temple, mosque or churches are coming in the way of infrastructure and development or illegally built should be mercilessly razed to the ground "To the last point on temple mosque and church. Is it possbile in a country like India where religion is blood." Elections should not be show of money power. Non politician or the political party should spend money for the elections. State should spend money only for holding elections. If political parties spend money for the elections, government should impose expenditure tax . "I understand the seriousness of this, since i too am a tax payer. Along with this Voting must be made compulsory. I feel people donot cast vote and end of the day start cribbing about the government. I feel this is a bigger "crime"." Overall a very interesting blog.Would be nice if I could receive your reply through mail to my query-" Whats your opinion on MNC's coming to India?" Looking forward to your reply. There are hell lot of points being put up,every now and then in the similar context. And I guess, we know all from our conscience that this is happeneing. Right from the minute we wake up, to the time, we sign off for the day, the uneasines towards our very own system keeps on creeping. But I feel, its really high time we stop telling 'whats' wrong. Instead of the whats we need to figure out the 'hows'. Enough of complaining and bugging around. I guess the blog could be more valuable if we dwell on each topic individually and try to come out of those pitholes by acting, and not speaking. So many things have been spoken about; but really how many us have the guts to just go there and do it. Lets start now and be clear on what we need to do.Enough lectures and debates. After all its the action that speaks louder and thunderous than the words.!!!

With reference to my last comment, I just want to make it clear that its no offence or disregard to the writer sir or anyone who feels offended. Its was just a general remark to all the youths to just pull up their sleeves and making things work. My sincere and humble apologies; if that hurt anyone in any respect.

Do you know what you are saying sir. You are saying to give military training to every youth of our country. So let me get this straight military trining for youth means evryone right? which would mean once they are through with there training they'll be able use tht trining more effectively on others, right? Is that what you mean sir, More fectively to kill others during riots. I mean ho do you think are part of ny gang who create mayhem during ny riot, they are the youth, right? Be very very careful sir of wht you suggets. If you havent lost anybody during any riots then speka with someone who has, & they'll surely giv a good feedback about your suggestion

My suggetion is giving limited military training to youth so that patriotism, discipline and besides preparing them to fight terror in case of emrgency. Do you that all ex-service are indulging in killing people? In fact many ex-servicemen have been useful to the Society and large number of ex-service men have invovled themselves in social activities after retirement and are useful to the Soceity.Today our youth is misguided. We are just converting our youth into money making machines. Therefore, military training will definitely will help them to mould their personality, vision and make them worthy citizens.

Dear Sharth, You have posed a good question. When we can ban smoking in public places among one billion population,it is possible to make primary education mandatory by amending the Constitution of India. Way in sixties many states adopted Tiller is the owner of the land. With little failure the policy by and large has been successfully implimented. Therefore, education at primary school level can be made compulsory. As regards choosing right people to rule us,i am of the view that we switch over from present from of Democracy to American type of Democracy where President is elected directly by the people. he shall have the option of choosing right people for the right job.In the present system people like Lalu, mulyam, sibu sore, mayavathi and people with criminal records, illiterates thugs, goondas also become ministers and their main goal is to make money and not development. As regards your query whether churches, temples and mosques can be razed to ground, when religion is way of life in India,I think it is possible. All that you have to do is enforce rule as per statute books. No deviations. Recently Gujarath CM did made an attempt to raze temples on roads and encroached lands.Considering the fact that you are still in your teens, you thoughts are really interesting and your concern for the problems that are being faced by the Country makes feel that Future India is in safe hands

First of all "Happy New year to all" Dear Holla Sir, I completely agree the fact that in a country like India where we have population more than a billion, if we can implement something like banning of smoking in public places definitely we can think of making the primary education mandatory, but i feel its just not about implementing rules Sir, it is also about forcing people follow them. Stringent measures must be taken against people who don't follow these rules. I strongly feel that its not only the government which needs to be blamed, we should also take the blame on our part. We must join hands in bringing some kind of revolution rather than just questioning. "Rome cannot be built in one day". Rather than taking new year resolutions like "i ll work on my physique" , "i ll come home early" why cant we think of something like "We will work for the betterment of society, people and country". Dear Mr.Common, I completely agree the fact that if military training is made compulsive common people will have enough training. But why do you think sir that this move would cause the riots to be more violent. These riots are made by few people who have thirst of money and power. Not all youth are involved in the such riots. Just imagine with such a big population cant we have a great STRONG army force who can defend in any crisis situations. Of course right direction, polishing and inspiration for the youth is definitely required. Then if as you said youth would be trained to become more skillful and violent then what do you have to say about what is happening in the US, Singapore where military training is mandatory. I strongly recommend "Military training should be mandated"
