Turn India to INDIA Inc. - Lalit Jaitly

I would run this country like a corporate, a big, old and parental corporate, where all you can afford is to succeed and everything thay you have is at stake. Remember, It was a shallow one room business started by our forefathers who continually nurtured it and today it is a giant in motion with its peculiar strengths and weaknesses

Let us run it like a big corporate business with all ministries as departments and citizens as its customers. Yes, the citizens would be customers to this business, they would be consumers of goods, products and services offered by this corporate and they will pay us in form of tax.

As a CEO of this corporate, I would treat each task a project and the ministers would be appointed as project managers, it will project manager’s duty to come up with deliverables, schedule and cost this project. I must add here for all projects there must be a stakeholder who are subject matter experts and are chosen from normal citizens. The project manager has to run the project within given resources, which he agreed upon in the beginning and deliver it within schedule with exact deliverables. If any of the said criterions does not match the project is a failure and so is the project manager.

Just like a corporate has different departments, security, maintenance, finance, research and development, marketing, HR, etc, I would have all of them and they all work in tandem with a common goal, goal of making this business no 1. All of us working for this business has to remember that we here because of our customers, the citizens of this country.

Also I would make sure that my customers also respect their rights and they behave within prescribed limits as guarded by our constitution. I would grade my customers on basis of their performance and ethical behavior, if they behave good, they will get good and vice versa, which is more important. If my customers are unhappy about the road conditions then they have to follow traffic rules before they complain.

The better part, it is not difficult to run it this way, we have a rich experience here in our country. I would hire any of CEOs of large business house as the chief consultant to the INDIA Inc and give it a start.

It is our time now and there would not be any second chance.

"I would grade my customers on basis of their performance and ethical behavior"... Do you even know what are you saying?! At this time...or for that matter any time...we need concrete steps and not fancy articles such are yours. And hypothetically speaking...what happens to the "customers" who don't have any money? They get thrown out of the corporation...Right?! Looks good to you, I guess.

Mr Sundamini, Customers are not part of corporates, they are reason for its exsistence. No on throws a customer out, read it carefully. Do not take literal meanings, try to get message of it. If my basics are strong, no one can hurt me. My article was more on a long term strategy rather than being fast and furious. thanks for reading it though. -Lalit

I would abolish all levies, duties, controls including on imports, of ordinary tools and all protective equipment including all kinds of gloves that are required by artisans of all kinds : masons, plumbers, carpenters, barbers, electricians, goldsmiths etc.Request Australia's TAFE-like schools to set up training schools to turn out trained all kinds of skilled workers.Remove all licences for all non-motorised transport vehicles.Set up transport workers' unions, educate them on controls of numbers and make them the sole body for issuing licences with the State and police taken out of the picture. In India poor are the easy targets of politicians and BABUDOM

I think that is good thought and in many cases and areas it is feasible to run specific services as being done in a corporate. In some cases it may not be the right approach as the services rendered to people cannot be looked at as profit centres. Especially the process and systems put in place that are utilised in order to protect the people of the nation . I do not want to put a plug on it, but, in the past CMs like Chandrababu Naidu tried in some cases a corporate approach for administration. He did succeed in some of the areas but also took a beating from the mass. So it is important to know which systems will be targeted for such an approach.Whatever be the approach, the most efficient system is one where human intervention is least . It should be a system that does not require humans to be part of decision making at any levels when the goods and services are provided to people , in your case the customer.

After all..... I am just a common man. I think before we talk about changing the way we look at our neighbour, we should change the way we Indians ourselves look at things. Its very easy to blame others & then make suggestions. We all talk about handing India to India Inc. Well here are few things that could happen after doing this:- 1. Our Leaders(VP, AVPs etc..etc,,) will start taling about productivity & we all know that only means others & not thmselves, which is also reality in current situation. 2. They'll talk about being employee friendly in general meetings but in there board meetings they'll talk about how they can o cost cutting by limiting the workforce. 3. They'll talk about ethics for others but when it comes to themselves they'll hire high society pros to accompany them for there vacations. 4. They'll talk abut ethics again but when it comes to gettng a contract from any client they'll go to any lenght & breadth. 5. They'll talk about security of our borders from the point of view of financial feasibility. 6. If security means outsourcing our armed forces to anther company to show profits they'll probably outsource it to the Chinese. I can go on & on & on about benefits..... of handling our country to Corporate India, but thats th point. The point have we ever tried to analyze why is this happening in India & else where. Well the answer is Uncle Sam or US as we all call that part of the world. Did we ever try to understand the psyche of a terrorist before try to uproot it from our neighbours. Surely they cant call shots from there cuntry without getting help from our own country men. & why is that? Because we choose to forget 1984, we choose to forget Gujrat & we choose to forget Bombay 1992. If it had ben for me I would have done the sam thing which happened in Mumbai on 26 Nov but I would have choosen to hit the bloody politicians instead. Surely the guys who planned this & excecuted it are at fault not becaue of doing it but becuse they did it to common men. I think if we are to change anything in th near future we need to stop forgetting our own problems before questioning others. We dont have a single leader today in our country we only have politicians & handing over to corporates is not a solution but finding a good leader is a problem. But ya you would all probably be right how can i do it, after all I am just a common man............

Polticians have failed India. Terrorists operating in Kashmir and other parts of India are called militants and extremists by our leadership and media.Terrorist activities by a section of people is justified by calling it reactions to Babri and Gujrat episods. Killings of innocents is deplorable and who so ever is responsible should be brought to justice regardless of the community he belongs to. Vote bank politics should not dictate out internal and external(foreign) policies. But who will do that? What a shame that we givs clean chit to Pakistan and blames a band of criminals. I failed to understand, when our leadership will understand that this is a mini undeclared war. In the first war of 1948 and in Kargil, Pakistan maintained that their security forces were not involved. Government of Pakistan is pursuing its policy to bleed India with thousand cuts and our leaders are in deep slumber. We are surrounded by hostile neighours, that is classic case of failure of foreign policy. When incompetent persons and leaders with criminal background are responsible for deciding our fate and destiny, you have no option but to pray to Lord for your safety and security. State can not provide you security. Leaders are well protected by NSG. The Indian nation is deeply missing Dr. Radhaktrishnan, Pt. Nehru, Sardar Patel, Dr. Prasad, Netaji Bose, Rajgopalachari, Indira Gandhi et all.. Compare them with todays leadership of rapists, crimnals, fodder scamsters, smugglers, and business partners of overseas based mafias. Division of Pakistan into three states is a temporary solutions and elimination is permanent. We need to pay them in same coin and follow the policy of million cuts to bleed Pakistan to bring to its knees. If you can not make them understand in their own language then continue to have candle and peace marches. History always repeats itself.

If these politicians wanted to sort out Kashmir problem they would have done it longtime ago. They dont have the will to do it because of there own vested interestes. We should all stop adressing them as leadesr becase we dont have any in present scenerio, they are all politicians who only believe in vote bank politics. Easy way out would be to stop all contacts with Pakistan because there economy cannot survive without business from & with India, but even after so many years & so many attacks(dont forget Kargil) involvng there citizens our politicians have done nothing but bark at them.

Can India be converted into India inc. without having a shareholder based voting system? If the voting franchise was restricted to those who did military service or paid taxes, in the proportion that they paid taxes, imagine how different a polity we would have. Politicians would vie to appear their best to the tax paying public. Everyone who wanted a political voice would make sure that they paid taxes por served in the military. This would be a system far better than the one we have today.

1) Minimum qualification for voting in this country - 8th passed. 2) Elections- a candidate having a single criminal record should not be allowed to contest. 3) I.A.S./I.P.S/I.R.S and other allied services - if found guilty of corruption should be hanged and the properties of their family and relatives be attached.
