Use technology to fight terrorism - Deendayal Lulla

To fight the new age of brutal and globalised terror, we need to use modern technology of satellites, defence, software, and telecommunications among others. When terrorists were running up and down at VT station, if we had underground barriers of say 10 feet which could been brought overground to trap the terrorists, the mayhem would not have happened. These barriers are in place at the Parliament House in New Delhi. All important public places as well as private establishments should have such barriers. Even roads in major cities should have these barriers, and gradullay all cities in India should be covered.

We can ask the Indian Institutes of Technology to develop metal detection equipment using Nano technology, and connected to a sateliite. These equipment should cover an entire city. The entire coastline of India should be covered by sonar sensors which the DRDO has already developed, and connected to a satellite.

We should use the traditional method of sprinkling red chilli powder smoke in large quantity with the help of modern technology. If we had red chilli powder sprinklers which could have been activated using sensors on the terrorists running up and down the VT station, the terrorists' mobility would have been lost, and they could have been caught alive.

The Navy and the Coast Guard should have a database of fishermen all over India, and a software which can detect fake ID cards of fishermen. Computers on the ships of the Navy and the Coast Guard should be linked with the different authorities of states such as Police, and the Fisheries. In one click, the Navy and the Coastguard personnel should be able to find out if the details on a smart ID cards of fishermen match with those stored in computers of different states authorities. In case of hijacking of boats, owners should inform the authorities immediately so that quick action can be taken.

Our response time should be quick to deal with the terrorists attack like we had in Bombay. The Army, the Navy and the Air Force should act on its own instead of waiting for communication from the state authorities. States should also create their special commando teams equipped with lethal weapons, modern telecommunications equipment, and helicopters. A helicopter could have used to lift the vehicle of terrorists, on a short notice.

We should have a wide network of CCTV, again connected to a satellite. We should also have a central command to fight the menace of terrorism. This command should act as an authority which can organise forces, and look after the relief.

Dear Sir Please do not misunderstand but allow me to say that you have absolutely no clue of technology. While I appreciate your desire to make a difference, it would be prudent if you do not dabble into the realm of unknown. You may contact me for any clarifications.

Reminds me of those grade VII extempore speeches, "If-I-were-the-PM-I-would-have-banned-corruption" type of speeches. The irony is, those speeches win prizes but seldom do the speech makers grow up to lead India. [Sigh! Soham, wake up and smell the coffee, this is India.]

I would like to know more about these ideas. I am an American student doing a project on Indian security. I have learnt alot about the unfortunate events that occurred in November, and now I would like to know more about the discussions going on in India about the knew security and terrorism issues. It would be even better if you could give me an opinion on the technology used to deal with these problems, and if it is enough. Thanks, CK
