Infy director is now popular American dessert

In yet another Play Things exclusive we have with us an email that was sent out to several Infosys employees yesterday. The email is merely an HR release on interesting office functions that have taken place in the facility over the last few days. Prima facie there is nothing odd about it. Some would say that such bonhomie in companies is uncalled for in this age of crashing stock markets, global financial meltdown and all that.

But then we all know how Human Resources will send you photos of that office trip to the water park and then employee newsletters and revised corporate vision statements relentlessly up till five minutes before they ask you to clear the desk and leave the office quietly with the security guard due to "unplanned resource allocation and right-sizing".

Even then there are a few things amusing about this email. For one we like the phrase "petit infoscions". You may be forgiven for thinking they are some sort of subatomic particle...

Scientist: The Large Hadron Collider is a success!
World media: How come?
Scientist: Finally We have isolated a petit infoscion...
World media: And the world will end shortly yes?

But the highlight of the email comes way down in the second last line. I don't know about you, but if I were referring to someone who is on the Board of Directors and is, oops, the Director of Human Resources you might want to spell his name right. Perhaps the guy who typed this email was hungry when he wrote it. Or perhaps it was overzealous spell checking. Poor TV Mohandas Pai ends up sounding like a fusion dessert. Or a low-budget fast food chain. Or just funny.

    *Bhumi Pooja program for the new DC coming at pocharam was held at
    gachibowli campus where NRN, Dr.Y.Rajashekar Reddy (CM of A.P) along
    with Mohandas Pie were in the campus for inauguration of up coming DC. A
    press meet was also held after the inauguration program for the new DC.

Somebody at Infy gonna get hurt.

Google heart Infosys. Infosys heart employees.

There has seldom been a sadder time to be friends with people in the banking and finance industries. Half of them sit at home jobless and the other half sit paranoid in the office while their retail consumers empty the cash boxes. Gone were the days when a new restaurant opening in Mumbai meant conning the nearest banker into paying for everyone's dinner, promising to pay him back and then forgetting all about it as the poor banker worked 11 weekends on the trot presumably selling complex derivatives to AIG or Lehman.

Which is why we are back to making friends with people in the Information Technology industry. While we do not completely understand economics, apparently a week rupee is good new for local IT factories and the geeks within. But even then we must be selective. Apparently Info-scions are the people to hob nob with. Why? Let me explain using Google...

A few days ago a reader of this blog alerted us to an interesting trend that emerged when using the search engine. The full story has already been chronicled at this blog but we'll tell you about it anyways.

Search for each of the following phrases on Google:

tcs firing
wipro firing
satyam firing
infosys firing

The first three, as may be expected, throw up news results of the firms laying of employees and ranty blogs by people who work for them.

The last one, however, throws up a surprise:

Google, taken aback by your insinuation that Infosys actually fires people, quickly gathers itself together before suggesting to the contrary: Did you mean Infosys hiring? Try it for yourself.

This raises many questions: Does Google know something we don't? Is Infy immune to economic downturns maladies? Can you not be fired if Infosys hires you? Are there openings for tech bloggers at Infy?

The mind boggles.
