My Dear Obama supporter, Show Me The Money

Got to love what US elections and politics have become in the home of capitalism. It is intensely personal and the bottom line is, well, about the bottom line. Here are a couple of emails from the Barack Obama campaign from the Democratic Convention in Denver.

Friend --
My mom, the girls, and I left home in Chicago and got to Denver yesterday. What a beautiful city!
The convention started this morning, and everyone here is getting ready for the big week. All the work you've done is at the heart of what's happening here, and our team filmed a short video to give you a look behind the scenes at the convention center. Take a minute to check out the video and share it with friends (see video here). This week, folks from across the country will get to know Barack and our family a little better. Tonight I'm giving a speech at the convention, and I'm planning to share a few stories about the Barack I know -- the husband, the father, and the man who shares my dreams for our girls, for this country, and for our future.
Before my speech, we're also going to show a video introducing our family to families across the country. Make sure to turn on your TV at 10:30 p.m. EDT (8:30 p.m. MDT) to see it, or you can watch it at www.BarackObama.com.

Then there is this email from Barack himself

Friend --
I am so lucky to be married to the woman who delivered that speech last night. Michelle was electrifying, inspiring, and absolutely magnificent. I get a lot of credit for the speech I gave at the 2004 convention -- but I think she may have me beat. You have to see it to believe it. (see video here)
You really don't want to miss this.
And I'm not just saying that because she's my wife -- I truly believe it was the best speech of the campaign so far.
Barack

Each email has a prominent DONATE button urging people to give..as little as $5 (Rs220 these days). But you also have to love the creativity with which money is raised. Obama's much anticipated Vice President pick (Joe Biden) prompted this creative fund raising email.

Indian national elections are coming in the the next eight months. Some Indian parties have adapted the election paraphernalia of the US quite well (remember the Narendra Modi masks in Gujarat elections?) I wonder if retail fund raising is next? In a country where very few people stick anything on their cars, a Manmohan Singh car magnet might just work.

i got the speech as a forward in my inbox from at least four people today this is what one of them said . . "and she is not even standing for President herself . . . listen to this speech . . . hopefully one day we will have some leaders like these too . . . as we did once upon a time I am told ". . . i though of what might ensue if the always dignified mrs gursharan kaur or the always silent mrs advani decided to follow suit in election year 2009 in india..............

it all started with Bill: news are great... even greater when they are about America.living in far interiors of andhra pradesh,i loved everything about America in my teenage years, may be for reasons that i read about US.i for some reasons couldnt choose a profession that would take me to US and went on to join govt job but this America fascinated me .MY US presidential itch started with Bill Clinton presidential race.here is a man who came from very humble backgounds went on to become what press calls "the most powerful man on this earth", more than that what fascinated me about him and his successor is that they have pleasing voice.i felt that they also looked convincing in front of crowds.(notwithstanding that controversy btween Bush and Al Gore).Believe it or not ,for every election since 1992 my prediction turns out to be true. my bottm line (of course without that 15 bugs) is this time i put my chips on Mr barak Obama.

You are so right! There are others who feel his emails are sick and disgusting, this from topix... Monday Aug 25 man I feel dumb. I signed up for the email announcement thing at his website only to discover that you had to"donate" first. Like an idiot caught in the hype I did. Also I signed up for the text thing at 62262 until I realized there was a ten dollar fee! I read that you could cancel it by texting "stop" to 62262, so I did that, but they still charged me. I feel so dumb now. What a scam. Now every day I get obama spam asking me to watch an exclusive video...for five dollars!! I'm a 36 YO MWF voter and I feel like a RETARD!!! Does the same crap happen if u donate to McCain? Do you keep getting asked for more n more??? It's like, enough already, you suckered me in to begin with your text hype then sent it out when I and most people ARE ASLEEP!!! I'm pretty pissed off actually. I'm just not sure if I'm pissed at me I'd his campaign. I feel like I had a one night stand. Yuck. Anyone else?? I used to vote republican, but was going to vote Obama. I feel so dumb! Like he just sat there watching the dollar amounts go up as people like me bought into his hype. The dollar signs went up, up, up...and then we hear it on the news because our phones were still off at five am when we amble outta bed. Who'd a thunk anyone would be dumb enough to send a text that important out when anyone not in a club, bar, or casino was ASLEEP for crying out loud. I want my money back Barack!!!!!!! Got Regret Everett, WA Reply ยป |Report Abuse |Judge it! |#19 Monday Aug 25 Well, I didn't even want to admit that I did it after all the fuss. I also was a victim of the, what I like to call the "Obamascama." I too now get "personal" messages from Barack and Joe asking me to watch special videos...for a five dollar donation! Hello, I gave already, how greedy are you? Repeadedly asking me for money makes me mad, not glad that I have supported you. My, my, my. I also was asleep at the slight hour when the email came out and think that he only did this Textorama Obamascama to get revenues up before the convention. Sadly, it w
