I read the blog and started laughing in the first two sentences...Sushmita....You did it again....How can you get confused about the name 'Pawandeep'....it doesn't sound like a gal's name....or was it the 'deep' part that did the trick. Well, after reading the blog I was about to write something and started reading the comments and came across 'Pawan''s comments......poor guy...Look, what you did to him, he had to put up his surname also to explain to you :). It's going to be really nice, if you are actually writing sunday to sunday. I have not gone through all your blogs and am actually picking up one by one and reading and enjoying it throughly. Delaying the whole thing intentionally, so that I have some blogs on my hand :) Happy writing.

as and when it happens, i will let you know. wherever i go i will try to read yr blog. Every place has its plus and minus points. When it comes to books, delhi is one of the best places. I had got a copy of the book 'geisha' from SN very cheap and read it and thus got a some idea of the life style of Japanese people in the 30s. I love books isi bath nahin hai. another reason why i try to read books is, it improves ur vocabulary (P.S.By aruna & Co i just meant all the others of the team).

Oh Yeah...! Finally u're in ur apartment now. I'm wondering about the A/c opening & Check Books stuff... it really sucks in there... BTW its too impressive in the US.. flat 15 mins it takes to open a bank A/c in any bank & they give U an instant debit card.. checks arrive in another week.. thanks for the Sunday blog thinge... seems like a Sun HT

my gmail ID photograph was taken in phuket, it's not from Dubai! i'm too broke right now to go for a makeover, but maybe one day... who knows??? phoren-returned: do u mean that bur dubai is a great place to flag cabs? i see no such sign... in fact, if you call for a cab, you are usually told that all cabs are full up! where is Indian Palace? Bheela: due date? u mean the kid? the kid's arrived -- she was born on 21 august. bro and sis-in-law are fine. will definitely take u up on the meena bazaar tip: but do u only get material? no readymade stuff?

Sushmita, Thanks for answering my question on your work / possible column in print and I will wait for the column. I will surely see the Friday review too. The PhorenReturned wrote very correctly about Bur Dubai - next time you are in Meena Bazar, go buy some really nice salwar kurta material for your people back in Delhi - you wont believe, when I bought and took for my folks in Delhi - they were awe struck at the design and yes, prices too.. How are your brother and sis in law - when is the due date? I like the black sheep getting some good things in his life and I am amazed how he wrote about your column - I always thought he is going to make it big one day (since everyone else in the family was writing him off) - Most black sheeps do.. and yes, Karachi Darbar is my favourite too - make sure to visit in a group as the size of their dishes are very large.

hey, you have discussed so many problems and changes in Dubai, which will surely take some time for you to adjust. But I am curious to know about the fashion in Dubai. Do you wear the same dresses as in Delhi or you have to change the style there. One more thing, I saw your photograph in gmail id, and that sushmita is totally different than as seen in this blog. Why don't you put that one here...?

From someone who just returned from Dubai, here's a bit of unsolicited advice: Bur Dubai rocks as far as the cab-situation goes (which is a big PAIN, more so in 50C+ temps). Diera apparently has nothing but the Gold Souk. And while we're still at it, try Indian Palace - amazing food joint. Karachi Darbar also gets rave reviews - apparently the dudes have pioneered the supply chain concept - central kitchen that delivers to all of their 15-odd stores.

yes Bheela, i hope to start a column, tho it won't be on being single in the city, will be slightly more broadbased... will keep you posted as to when it's going to start... I am taking care of features here, will soon have a team etc. and i will look into the bookstore matter very seriously. btw, we've started a Reviews page on Friday, hope you see it sometime. it's not just books, but reviews in general (travel, trends, films, music, gadgets and books of course). sidak, dude, it's cheaper getting a studio in NYC than in dubai let me tell you!!! you won't believe the kind of time, energy and MONEY you spend here trying to get a place!

hey, i know what the hell it is to get an apartment being a single. I am also looking for an apartment in NYC and getting crazy with every passing day as i had to move out of my current apartment by end of the month...i have already started sleepless nights :( God help me find some peace in the form of a studio apt :)

I am glad you are back Sushmita - I was expecting a post on Sunday. I agree with Abhiroop's Didi about the bookstore. Though they do have some book stores and they do get the latest books but the prices of the books are awefully high. My husband is a regular book buyer in Delhi and also whenever he is in Abu Dhabi - but he has told me that in Delhi, he gets books less than printed price and on top he gets 20% discount - the only interest he has to buy from Abu Dhabi is that he gets many books the latest editions which they do not yet have in Delhi. Sushmita, please put these issues about lack of bookstores/high cost of books in your newspaper. BTW, what are your functions in your new company? Will you be writing any Sunday - I mean Friday columns like you did for HT? I wanted to share with you another thought - I keep Gulfnews - on every Friday they issue a magazine - called Friday - there is a column every Friday written by some one called G*nice. Have you read? Whenever I read that article I used to miss your Single article. I hope in this blog we can see your post every Sunday opps Friday.

bookshops are a rarity here: you have a few regulation ones in the malls... no such thing as a Just Like That bookstore. and in the malls, the collection is kind of limited (lots of self-help and baby books -- and yes, cookbooks!), and, of course, the prices are crazy! also, one doesn't see newsstands here. jayanto's toons, alas, may be a problem. i miss them too :(

sunday morning. (still) single in the city. annnd peace on earth.
you know my didi works in dubai too. love-hate relationship with the place. loves it for all the things she hated in delhi (safety level etc) and hates it for all the things she loved in delhi (good bookshops, for one). and what a dreadful sentence that was. is there any way we can have jayanto's toons here? miss those....

I had this big, tall, surd friend in class 11. his name was gagandeep. then one day he came to class looking utterly mortified. he wouldnt say why. half the day gone, he meekly explained that his parents had rechristened him - simran.

my girlfriend's name is simran too!!

aw, hell, this is too weird, abt the name! u know, i had this lurking feeling that you could well be a male, not female, but i just took my chances!!! sorry man, will keep it in mind... Aruna will be happy to know that he's in company... He's 'quite alright', Anilatha (when are u going to the US?), as he likes to say. Tiger is fine too, he's still prowling around Delhi...
