Okay so I don’t really dig my men wearing eye makeup (exceptions made for Johnny Depp). Super slick hair is not a big scorer either. But then this was not about the men—or me. Ravi Bajaj’s show titled Dandy March at the Van Heusen India Men’s Week in Delhi yesterday was about the clothes, in all their velvety, silky, shimmery glory. This was the first time that the veteran designer took part in a fashion show. Apparently he didn’t want to deal with their divisive politics all these years. So now, after 20 years of specializing in the hard-edged.

The American Ballet Theatre will make its first visit to Beijing this November to perform 'Don Quixote'. They aren't the only American art organization planning a high-profile visit to Asia this fall: There's The New York Philharmonic which will be going to...Vietnam. I don't care much for the philharmonic (though I'm curious about the choice of country) but I know that I want ballet. Despite the politics about the anorexia-ridden secret lives of ballerinas, I find pirouettes beautiful. There's something inherently fascinating.

Despite a lot of mumbling about how terrible the weather and public transport is in Delhi—a city I’ve been in for less than 3 weeks—the continuous stream of artsy soul food has kept me afloat. Where else would I get to hear A.R Rahman and Amaan and Ayaan Ali Khan in invite-only performances in a span of two weeks? But it looks like these are treats only for me. Delhi sarkari types are far too jaded with such events to bother 1) Coming on time 2) Actually listening 3) Staying till the end. There’s that thing about valuing things more when you have.

Okay so now the rather distasteful The Hangover (I call it the Adult Fratboy genre) is to have a Hindi remake. Since it released in India two weeks ago, The Hangover ’s success at the Indian box office—with collections close to Rs.7 crore—most definitely attracted producer Firoz Nadiadwala. But what I don’t get is this: why spend resources on acquiring rights to a storyline if it is likely to be a pastiche of assorted actors, sexed-up locations and loud designer shoes that could have been put together even without a storyline? Director Aneez Bazmee.
