Vikramaditya, the king of Ujjain, is famed for his wisdom, valour and magnanimity, is one of the most popular legendary Indian kings. But in the modern history, the popular Vikramaditya is referred as 'she'! In an interview with the Hindu newspaper on Wednesday, August 12, 2009, the Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Sureesh Mehta says: "I hope she'll last 30 years and more", referring to the wonderful capabilities of INS Vikramaditya, (ex- Admiral Gorshkov) aircraft carrier, which the Navy say will be ready by 2012. Although.

On 4 August, I along with a few other friends from the media visited Amarnath cave, the site that Lord Shiva chose to divulge the secret of immortality to his inquisitive consort Goddess Parvati. Almost a month before on 7 July, I was visiting St. Peter's Basilica in Vatican. Although both these pilgrim centers have nothing in common, I was surprised at the similarities of the feelings I have had during my visits to these holy places. We, a team of 14 journalists and some officials from the home ministry, climbed the Amarnath cave from the Pahalgam.

Foreign minister S. M. Krishna's performance at a crucial time when he was expected to demonstrate his administrative experience has left many in the Congress upset. Some party MPs, who enjoy making fun of their ministers, could not stop talking about the embarrassment Krishna has made in Parliament during his reply to a debate on controversial India-Pakistan joint statement in both houses. Some of them even went to the extent of saying that he has become an embarrassment for the government - an accusation akin to former home minister Shivraj.

Many MPs belonging to the UPA admit that the “feel good factor” that came with its emphatic election victory is now over. "In fact, it looks like the bad time has begun," said a Congress MP. Although the union budget tried hard to maintain the government’s popularity, the budget session is now proving to be very tough. Besides giving ammunition to the otherwise-lackluster opposition, the controversy over the joint statement signed by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and his Pakistan counterpart Yousaf Raza Gilani, appears to have shaken the.

"Mind your language" was the message Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav had to his fellow MPs in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday! Although his allegiance or obsession with Hindi was known to public, not many in Parliament appreciate it. The former Uttar Pradesh chief minister, who had vowed that his party would curb English medium schools, computers and even the usage of English language, received a snub from Maneka Gandhi in the Lok Sabha. Yadav was visibly irritated when environment minister Jairam Ramesh started replying his question.

While her husband joined world leaders expressing his concern about global food security and the steep price of foodgrains, US First Lady Michelle Obama showed the way how to handle the crisis! Michelle Obama, who is accompanying her husband Barack Obama for the three-day summit in L'Aquila in Italy, earned praises from Italian consumer groups for asking a 'doggy bag' before leaving a restaurent in Rome on Wednesday evening. The US First Lady, who was 'moved' by the plight of earthquake victims in L'Aquila, the venue of the.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will visit the US soon, but dates are not decided even as US President Barack Obama has accepted Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s invitation to visit India, said officials accompanying the prime minister at the G8 summit being held in Italian mountain town of L’Aquila. ‘’Both leaders had a pull aside during the meeting. They had a good conversation which included visit of (US) secretary of state Hillary Clinton and also how bilateral talks could be taken to enhanced level of co-operation between the two countries,’’.

Officials attached to the world leaders still remember how Canadian prime minister Stephen Harper embarrassed himself as well as his official delegation by turning up late for a photo shoot at the G20 meeting in London in last April. It seems Harper, recently in news for his goof ups, has made it a habit. The Canadian premier was missing when the G8 and G5 leaders lined up for a 'family photo' in Coppito, in the mountain town of L'Aquila in italy on Thursday. According to officials present inside the summit hall, some of the leaders.

There is a surprising similiarity between the messages of Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Pope Benedict XVI! In a letter to Italian President Silvio Berlusconi, who chairs the ongoing G8 summit in Italian mountain town of L'Aquila, the head of the Catholic Church has urged the rich nations to increase developmental aids to poor countries and listen not only to the rich countries with major economic success, but also to those ''less developed.'' Manmohan Singh as well as the leaders of the Group of Five (G5) major developing.

Italian police have been making all possible efforts to suppress the anticapitalist protestors during the ongoing G8 summit, which is being held in Coppito in mountain town of L’Aquila. Scores of youngsters including foreigners were arrested for blocking the highways during their protest demonstrations against the G8 summit being held from 8 July. The police may have smartly kept away the protest demonstrations from the world leaders, who are camping in barracks of the financial police of Coppito, but they could not do anything to hide the message.

Brazilian president Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva never fails to charm the people around. Brazil's most popular president in history, who built up South America's largest economy by putting the country on a trajectory of prosperity, worked his charm at the G8 summit in L’Aquila, where world leaders are meeting to discuss global financial crisis, trade, climate change and food security. An otherwise boring press conference of leaders of India, Brazil, Mexico, South Africa and China, was made an interesting event by Lula on Wednesday. After making.

Heads of leading industrial nations, who are meeting in Coppito, in the medieval mountain town of L'Aquila in Italy, are literally and figuratively on a shaky ground. The area was devastated by an earthquake of 6.3 magnitude in the Ritcher scale leaving around 300 killed, 1,500 injured and over 60,000 homeless. The summit will also witness the economic shock waves in the wake of global slow down. The three-day meeting (from 8 -10 July) will bring together the leaders of the group’s eight members – Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Russia.

There was too much bitterness in the two-day Communist Party of India (Marxist) or CPM's central committee that concluded on Sunday. While many state units were irked with the central leadership for its attempts to form a Third Front government, Kerala unit was sharply divided over the ongoing internal battle between state secretary Pinarayi Vijayan and chief minister V.S. Achuthanandan. A section of leaders have been angry with general secretary Prakash Karat for "going out of way to rope in parties like BSP and AIADMK on the eve of elections.

Political rivalry can go to any extent, proves Mamata Banerjee, chief of Trinamool Congress and India's new railway minister! Ever since she took over as the minister, there has not been a single day Banerjee did not blast the Left parties, especially her archrival Communist Party of India (Marxist)or CPM. The CPM, whose tally was cut short to 9 from 26 in the previous Lok Sabha, was too busy with their own problems to respond to Banerjee's provocations. But the latest development has shocked even the senior most leaders of the party. CPM.

Congress ministers as well as senior leaders seem to have a new obsession these days - the empowerment of women. Sensing party president Sonia Gandhi's keenness to push for Women's Reservation Bill - seeking to reserve 33% of seats in parliament and legislative assemblies for women, the concerned ministries have given enough indications that they will do their best to bring the bill as early as possible. Not to be left behind, other ministries are searching for opportunities to show off their interest to address the concerns of women. Some.
