The winner's drawing will appear on the Google India homepage on November 14, childrens' day. The world's largest internet search engine will also give out a laptop to the winner and a technology grant of Rs 1 lakh to the winner's.

A rising tide raises all boats but the same doesn't go when the tide ebbs. Companies, big and small, aim to be in ship-shape in anticipation of the good times and hence "continue to invest in critical talent as there is an increased fear that competitors may try to lure valuable employees," says a report released today by audit *** consulting firm, Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu India Pvt. Ltd . While cutting back on regular training expenses, 70% of companies are investing heavily in building a strong leadership pipeline, right from identifying.

Job site, Monster.com is planning to offer its recruitment services over direct-to-home , Dishtv service to reach out to people who do not have internet access. Users will be able to search for jobs and avail of resume writing services through "MonsterJobs Active" using just their television sets by end of July. Dishtv is currently doing an internal pilot for the same. However there are a few gaps in hooking up the tv through the internet; only one way messaging is possible. This means the television set can show you messages but you can't.

There seems to be little good news from the job market. The job index computed by job site, naukri.com continued its slide touching 664 points in May down from 677 in April. The index slid over 14% over the last seven months. Hiring activity has declined in May vis-a-vis April across Delhi-NCR, Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai and Hyderabad, says Naukri.com's latest monthly survey, An Index of Job Opportunities, May 2009 . While recruitment activity in the auto sector is picking up, the software and telecom sectors are moving southwards while industrial.

US companies announced over 200,000 job cuts just in the month of January 2009 with corporations like Boeing, Pfizer, Microsoft, Caterpillar scaling back jobs. Are these well thought out job cuts or more of a herd mentality to trim costs? While selling machinery or office space may be cumbersome, handing out pink slips may be the easiest thing to do and what's more it often brings cheer to the stock markets as well. The argument becomes interesting with the sticky wage theory, where traditional economists have argued that while prices of shirts.

While some schools like IMT Nagpur and Goa Institute of Management are looking for consultants hoping to find more doors and opportunities there are many who disagree with the idea. N.D. Sharma placement coordinator *** registrar at KJ Somaiya Institute of Management Studies & Research, is one of the them I came across while reporting a story. "We have direct access to companies. Consultants are a paid service." As of end January KJ Somaiya had placed about half its batch of 300 students and is not keen on consultants. Will consultants.

Note to readers: The following post features several comments from Mr. Pratik Kumar , Corporate Vice President, Human Resources at Wipro Ltd . These comments while made by Kumar, have however been taken out of context. The post has omitted to mention that Mr. Kumar's statement on job reset was contextualised as follows: "in the light of global scenario if salaries of technical and management campus hires are reset it will help in companies hiring more." The misleading portions of this post have been struck through. B schools school.

Predictably the Teamlease Employment Outlook Survey Jan-Mar 2009 is galore with gloomy indices and blue business outlooks all down from the previous quarter. But there is a silver lining. If you are in middle or senior levels you might just get lucky as companies are showing an increased interest in hiring at those levels. Meanwhile the International Labour Organization has released some alarmist forecasts; job losses in 2009 could be anything between 18-50 million. To read more

When does an IT services firm need a bench? When there is pipeline of deals. These are people who are in suspended animation waiting for a project to work on. In the case of tainted, Satyam Computer Services , which is even losing its present customers , the deals in the pipeline would have more or less disappeared ever since the over Rs 7,000 crore scam surfaced earlier this month. So what is the need for a bench which is estimated to be nothing less than 10,000-12,000 people that too for a company which needs about Rs 500 crore a month just to.

Mood: Remarkably upbeat Location: a golf resort in the outskirts of Bangalore Event: Knowledge Conclave - Universities of India 2008-09 "I've been to many events lately but the mood was glum everywhere.
